Talent management and becoming a true Learning Organization at Lightsource BP
Growing through continuous learning
A new platform to upskill and reskill the talent pool in real time, on the job
Lightsource BP’s goal was to become a true learning organization, globally recognized for developing member learning and development while continuously evolving to meet the demands of a fast-changing, heavily regulated environment.
Working with Valamis, Lightsource BP implemented a new learning platform they call “The Learning Hub” which is designed to preserve, nurture, and share their unique knowledge. Their platform empowers employees to upskill and reskill in real time, on the job, ensuring they keep pace with the company’s growth and ambitions.
The solution: A comprehensive and blended learning approach
Lightsource BP’s learning platform is a comprehensive blend of internally developed content, bespoke materials, and external learning objects from top-tier vendors, including Valamis’ partner, Go1. This platform supports a blended approach to training, combining digital self-directed learning with face-to-face and synchronous learning initiatives.
A standout example of this strategy is the use of the platform for Leadership Academies, where the digital learning path called IGNITE serves as the entry point for their signature leadership development programs: Sparks, Spotlight, and Brilliant Leaders.
Transformative impact on engagement, collaboration, and talent development
The Learning Hub has proven to be instrumental in several key areas. It delivers advanced content that enhances the learning experience, boosts employee engagement, and has increased talent retention. By growing their environment for social learning, the platform encourages direct communication, collaboration, and the exchange of innovative ideas.
It reinforces Lightsource BP’s brand identity both internally and externally, promoting company loyalty. Additionally, the Learning Hub supports the formation of cross-functional teams and relationships, driving holistic success and enabling internal talent sourcing by nurturing the existing talent within the organization.
The Learning Hub is the result of a collaborative effort of exceptional professionals within Lightsource bp and engagement from stakeholders across the business functions; including the Communication and IT departments, Global L&D team, HR and internal faculty members and tutors. They have also successfully engaged senior leadership in the project to the extent that the Lightsource bp CEO, Nick Boyle, all senior executives and the HR colleagues support the Learning Hub’s efforts in delivering their shared vision and initiative.
